After my victory earlier in the day over two stubborn license plate bolts, I finally took my new MR2 out for its first drive. Nothing special, just to the gas station and back.

I decided to look through the glove box to see what paperwork was with the car from its previous owner. This MR2 was purchased new by an older gentleman in Maine, and sure enough I found a Toyota dealer's "new car delivery checklist". I also found the Maine registration from 1988, the year I was born.

Kinja'd!!!

Cassette tape score! Eric Clapton's Behind the Sun. It's got "Forever Man" and was apparently produced by Phil Collins

Kinja'd!!!

I found a pair of glasses. They are so ridiculously 80's and so ridiculously old-man.

Kinja'd!!!

It's nice to see he kept a vial of touch-up paint in the glove; it shows he cared about it. The paint was all dried up, but at least I have the paint code.

Kinja'd!!!

A gas receipt from September 2009. This could have been one of the last times he ever got gas. The Maine plates that were still on the car had a registration sticker good through 2010, so if imagine that's right around when he passed away.

Kinja'd!!!

Lastly, some assembly instructions for a Hohner harmonica! You sir, we're just too cool!

Is it weird that I want to keep all of this stuff in the glovebox? I feel like it's such a part of the cars history.

Stuff like this post makes my level of MR2 want rise. How is it in general?

So far, I love it. It's so simple. You sit very low to the ground and it's actually a lot quicker than you'd think!

Awesome! So hard to find an AW11 with even decent paint and minor rust.

I still have the Mexican tourist vehicle insurance for my 4Runner from the 90s when the last (original) owners took a trip to Quintana Roo in the little pocket on my sun visor where it tells me how to grease everything haha.

Yeah, want level rising. There's this gorgeous (I think 89) supercharged one that I see around town. Seriously cool.

is it rust free? Because if it is that's some serious want right there.

Thanks! Yeah I was looking for a while. This one has the minor-est of rust, just a couple rock chips that were left untreated.

Yeah an s/c would have been awesome, but aw11's in general have gotten so rare around me and everything I saw was beat up. This one happened to come along at the right time

Haha that's awesome! I'd keep that

For the most part. There's a rock chip under the front bumper that needs attention and another chip on the front fender that was poorly touched up. Other than that, it's very straight and solid

Also the keys to a room at the Mount Washington Hotel in Vermont. Gonna have to make a cross country trip to find which room it is haha.

Yeah, I doubt I'd be able to find an s/c. What you have is what I'd aim for. Nice and NA. I hope you have great times with it.

that's awesome, if I can find an AW11 with that little rust I'll be happy. I love the affordable mid engine lay out.
